Continuing with my love for Bob’s Red Mill products, I decided to try the 13 Bean Soup Mix this weekend to make a delicious winter chili.

  13beanmix 13beanmix3

Beans should be a staple in everyone’s diet. They are high in fiber, loaded with protein, and have no cholesterol. Bob’s Red Mill 13 Bean Soup Mix contains a mixture of navy beans, black beans, red beans, pinto beans, baby lima beans, large lima beans, garbanzo beans, red lentils, great northern beans, kidney beans, black-eyed peas, yellow split peas, green split peas, and lentils. There is no seasoning added to this bean mix so you can use it to make any recipe you’d like!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Bob’s Red Mill 13 Bean Soup Mix
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 8oz cans tomato sauce
  • 1 6oz can tomato paste
  • 3 cups kale, chopped (optional)
  • 2 Tbsp chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Soak beans overnight. Place beans in large saucepan and cover with water. Simmer for 2 hours until beans are soft. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, onion, garlic, kale, and spices. Simmer for 1 hour. You can also add ground beef to this recipe if desired. Serve with this killer corn muffin recipe and enjoy on a cold winter day!

I am still contemplating what to make with all of the extra beans I soaked. Any ideas?

If you haven’t yet heard, the latest weight loss trend is the new P90X diet and fitness plan. Celebrities like Pink, Ashton Kutcher, and Sheryl Crow all claim that they use P90X to get in shape. I myself was unsure about what the P90X system was all about so I set out to do my own research.

P90X, or Power 90 Extreme, is a home fitness training system that aims to improve your physical physique in 90 days using vigorous interval training. This full body fitness plan includes cardiovascular, strength training, and stretching exercises divided into 3 30-day phases. It also consists of nutrition and supplementation plan.

p90x

The idea behind P90X is “muscle confusion.” Different movements and new exercises are introduced during each phase which prevents the body from becoming accustomed to any one exercise thus resulting in continuous improvement. Since the P90X system is an at home regimen, it requires that users have dumbbells, a pull-up bar or resistance band, a sturdy chair, a yoga mat, push-up handles, and a heart rate monitor.

Similar to the exercise portion of the program, the nutrition plan of P90X is also broken down into 3 30 day-phases. The first 30 days focuses on a high protein, low carbohydrate, and calorie restricted diet. The second phase includes a more moderate calorie intake with a balanced amount of protein and carbohydrates. Finally, the third phase aims for higher calories and more carbohydrates in order to supply the body with more energy to sustain the vigorous exercises. It is recommended that users also consume a post-exercise P90X recovery formula that consists of a 4:1 ratio of carbohydrates to whey protein – a supposedly ideal ratio for muscle growth and increased endurance. Optional supplements to be taken during the program include L-glutamine, L-arginine, and creatine.

Have you heard of the P90X home fitness training system? Are you or someone you know giving it a try? Please leave a comment! I am not selling, promoting, or discouraging the P90X system, but rather I am most interested in getting some feedback from anyone who is or has used it just out of curiosity!

This weekend I picked up some Peanut Butter & Co Dark Chocolate Dreams Peanut Butter.

It looked fun and unique, so I couldn’t resist. All I have to say is YUM! This stuff is heaven on earth, it tastes just like a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup!

It’s great to spread on bananas or as an ice cream topping! The perfect blend of peanut butter and chocolate makes this peanut butter extremely addicting!

I can’t wait to try the other Peanut Butter & Co flavors – they also make White Chocolate and Cinnamon Raisin Swirl peanut butter! Yum!Enjoy this post? Share it with your Facebook friends!

Super Circuit turned out to be really fun and a great workout! After such an exhausting workout I replenished my stores with a smoothie made of milk,

blueberries for antioxidants,

and and a scoop of whey protein that I picked up at work.

It gave me a good boost of protein for the day! With my recently pucharsed Magic Bullet blender I just can’t get enough of smoothies and shakes!Enjoy this post? Share it with your Facebook friends!
